“Mutual Impact – Rain Barrel Project” (2011)
Created by WPSD’s high school Film Production class, this video clip highlights the WPSD Rain Barrel project, whose goal is to help clean up the Nine-mile Run watershed. This cross-curriculum project between the video and science departments was conducted through a partnership with the Nine Mile Run Watershed Association.
“Mutual Impact – Rain Barrel Project” most recently won the Pittsburgh Environment Award (Grades 9-12) in the Steeltown Film Festival competition at the Heinz History Center on May 20th. The theme for the festival was “Take a Shot to Change the World.” The winning movies are posted on the Steeltown website at www.takeashotcontest.org. The video also won the Grand Prize award at the Seventh Annual C.A.U.S.E. Challenge High School Film Festival presented by Bayer Corp., Carnegie Science Center and Pittsburgh Filmmakers on Apr. 28, 2011. The Grand Prize included $1000 plus video euipment and $1500 to support the school’s media program.
This movie clip also won the “Best of Category” award in the Magazine Competition at the 2011 Television and Video Teachers (TVT) Consortium Student Video Festival at Robert Morris University on April 13, 2011. Each submission was scored using several criteria, including the use of storyboards and scripts, the quality of camera and editing work, lighting, audio, creativity and video impact.
